At 2 years old he still looks like a puppy. He is the cuddliest, most loving GR we have ever had although all three have had an equal place in our hearts. Bello always likes to be touching one of us. When he gets into bed I have to tighten my muscles up as he will always land with a WHOMP! on my belly! We love him to pieces, and are grateful to Helen Erickson, Shirley Shipp, and lastly Rodney Fong for referring me to these ladies who had the perfect little puppy for us. Awaiting the pups birth was the longest 6 months of my life! Joey was born on April 15th... coincidentally the same day as my dad. When Joey was a puppy he was the most playful pup (of course we all say that) His favourite thing to do was chase blowing leaves. He loved his stuffed toy duckie, and loved to de-stuff duckie almost as much! Joeys first year of like was like most puppy's, it had its ups and downs but everything was an amazing experience. When Joey turned 1 we celebrated by buying him close to 400 of his favourite things...tennis balls!! We flooded our living room with them and had him run into the amazing surprise. The look on his face was priceless! This photo was taken this past fall. It describes Joey in the best way, loving life, and his ball of course! It his one of his most favourite places to be with a nice river to swim in when it gets hot, and an awesome mountain to climb in the snow. Joey has been the best thing to ever happen to me. He is my 'fur child', my best friend, my little muffin man. His second birthday is coming up and I look at him and wonder where my little puppy went. They grow up so fast! Couldn't wait another day to go get her and bring her home. Our lovely girl comes to us from Dee Lynch of SandyLane Golden Retrievers. When we got home we had no power, no heat and no running water but our family all showed up to meet our newest family member. We all hung out in the living room by candle light to play with her. What a way to welcome home a new pup! This picture was taken her first morning out to explore her new yard sporting her brand new bandana. It was very cold and some of the trees were bent over to the ground from the weight of the ice. She loved to run between the branches. She has been such a joy to our family ever since. Fast forward to 2012 ~ Annie is currently the mother of 8 beautiful puppies and has done some modeling for Timberland Footwear and Clothing Company. She loves kids! She also likes to wrestle with her friends, fetch a stick, or search out the best swimming areas when we hike. She has completely changed our lives for the better. His breeder is Diane Casey, Casey's Goldens, Marshall, VA. His Dam is "Casey's Honey Bee", and his Sire is "Justmoor Terans Famous Amos ", bred by Marjorie Moore and owned by Terry Nieder of Teran's Retrievers, Spotsylvania, VA. This photograph was taken on January 8, 2011, when Buzz! was only 7 1/2 weeks old. We'd just driven home from picking him up at the breeder's farm. We got out of the car, and set him down on the driveway for the very first time. We don’t think he’d been on grass, (and certainly not snow), before this moment, when he took this giant, happy, “WHEEEEE!” leap off the raised driveway and into the snow. That was his first free run in our yard. Now at fifteen months old, he's still such a happy spirit. He’s 86 lbs, and he still considers himself a lap dog, as do we. He loves playing with his humans, going on long walks to meet up with his neighborhood canine buddies, running fast "puppy zoomies" in our yard and woods, chasing (but never catching) squirrels, retrieving balls and flying disks, chewing on sticks he's brought home, playing tag with his barn cat buddies, and visiting the barn in hopes someone has left a bit of cat kibble within his reach. During his first summer he loved launching himself into the pool at full speed to join his humans, and to play fetch with a favorite floating toy until his humans were exhausted. Buzz! is our third golden, but our first male. We still miss our earlier golden girls, but Buzz! is such a wonderful member of our family, their memories are kept alive in his daily joys. After noticing Belle’s strange behavior, we decided to take Belle to the emergency vet. They recommended an ultrasound and it brought us devastating news: Hemangiosarcoma in her spleen. It had not spread to the other organs so we decide to proceed with the recommended surgery, the removal of her spleen. Sadly, even with the surgery she would only have a few months left with us. We took two amazing family trips with Belle and General knowing each day was a special gift for all of us. On our second trip, Belle had gotten worse. She died in my arms two days after our return. We were all heartbroken, but we supported each other and got through it as best we could. We made a promise that we would spend more time with General thanking him for his patience while we were so focused on Belle. We went swimming at the lake, running at the trails and snuggling every night in bed. Unfortunately, the nightmare for us was not over. Four weeks after Belle's death, General stopped eating. My broken heart sank even deeper. Our oncologist ran the same testsonly to reveal our worst fear; General had Hemangiosarcoma too. The cancer had spread to his spleen, lungs and heart so there was nothing the doctor could do. Since we had dealt with the disease before, we decided to take him home until that final moment. We spent fourteen wonderful days together until the end. In six weeks, my house had no more golden's running around. General has just turned 7 years old. I felt he had been robbed of so much life and love. The following weekend was our eleven-year wedding anniversary. My husband, Rob, took us on a quick weekend trip to San Antonio so we could begin the healing process. We had no plans on taking on more members of the family anytime soon but we couldn’t help but look online to see what was out there. Sure enough, there was an advertisement for a new litter of golden retrievers so we decided to take a look. It was love at first sight! Not only did we find a pup that reminded us of Belle but we couldn’t help but notice a male that practically did circus tricks at our feet to get our attention. It worked! And now, Jolie and Jax, the newest members of our family, fill our hearts with love everyday. This Christmas will be bitter sweet, but we have much hope for the New Year. We have such warm touching memories of Belle and General in our hearts, and now, Jolie and Jax give us new exciting memorieseach day. They are similar in some ways, but definitely have their own personalities. We are blessed that they found their way to our home. The Sparks family would like to send love andprayers to all the families who have suffered through this process. May peace be with you and love fill your heart once again as it did with ours. Happy Holidays and our very best for you and yours in 2012, Nathalie, Rob, Lauren, Jolie and Lucky (Belle and General too!) admin Sun, 25 Dec 2011 12:56:12 -0600 Mandy http://www.grweekly.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=6468

by: admin

Description: Mandy is the off spring of "Pillsbury", Monterey Bay Eat Your Heart Out. Towards the end of last year, she began showing signs of laboured breathing and was panting all the time, even while at rest. After initial xrays of her chest and throat failed to show anything visible that might be a possible cause of her difficulties, I opted to take her to the Atlantic Veterinary College for follow-up at the end of February. Following sedation to have a look in Chloe's throat, it was learned that she had a large tonsilar mass and the vet was amazed by how well she had managed to compensate for it. My girl has been prone to fatty cysts for many years now and while the specialist was trying to prepare me for the diagnosis of cancer, I remained ever hopeful that the mass was just another fatty cyst but in an unusual location this time. When the pathology report came back following mass removal, we were all elated to learn that it was indeed just a collection of fatty tissue! It turns out that the mass is so rare (only one other documented case in a dog) the college is writing up Chloe's case study for submission to the veterinary journals. About six weeks after surgery however, Chloe began demonstrating digestive issues on and off that weren't cleared up by traditional means. Over the course of 3-4 months, she had lost approx 15 pounds and was showing muscle wasting at an alarming rate. It broke my heart when she began seeking food and never seemed satisfied after mealtimes. While my vet was stumped by her symptoms, I learned through my own research that her symptoms mirrored that of a dog with Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI). So, Chloe and I returned to the AVC at the beginning of September to have testing done to confirm whether or not my suspicions were accurate. In the back of my mind though, I was once again preparing myself for the worst ... a diagnosis of cancer. I can't even begin to express how relieved and grateful I was to hear that Chloe did in fact have EPI. It at least was something manageable! Within three days of adding enzymes to her meals, her digestive problems were resolved and she regained 10 lbs of the weight she had lost after just one month. Sure, Chloe can no longer have regular treats like she has grown accustomed to over the years and, she had to tolerate me giving her B12 shots at home on a regular basis but, I think that's a small sacrifice considering her health is back on track and she is thriving more than ever! I'm sure she'd agree. Not bad for an old girl. :) I've been very blessed that my sweet girl somehow always manages to bounce back from any health challenges thrown her way. Chloe's will and determination, which has been evident from the first day I brought her home as a pup, still continues to amaze me. I hope and pray we will have many more years together yet. As for Forrest, he's definitely showing signs of aging compliments of a white face and the hint of silver throughout his coat, but his demeanor and athletic abilities still rival that of his puppyhood days. He absolutely loves to play still and his zest for life has not dwindled one bit. He'll always remain my goofy little boy with the big, bright smile and non-stop wagging tail. His tail even wags while he's asleep and dreaming! I shudder to think of how empty my life would have been if I never had the opportunity to share my love and my life with my golden babies. They bring me so much joy! I'd like to extend my wishes to all of you for a very merry and blessed Christmas. Please hug your goldens extra tight this holiday season! He has two (2) younger brothers: Austin and Lincoln. Reno is our first Golden and is clearly the reason we ended up getting three others. From the day we brought Reno home (August 22, 2000), he has been the perfect dog. He was just a puppy himself when we brought home our second Golden, Phoenix. Reno immediately assumed the role of big brother and caretaker of Phoenix. They were inseparable and best friends until the day we lost Phoenix in 2009 at the age of 8 years old. Along came Austin, and then Lincoln, and once again Reno assumed the big brother/teacher role. He has shown so much patience with each of his younger brothers and, in turn, they have the utmost respect for him. Reno loves to chase squirrels and rabbits but has never caught one (thank goodness). Although he’s not a great swimmer, he does enjoy the water and will not miss an opportunity to plop himself down in a puddle of water. He is very social and has never met a person or other dog that he does not like. In June of this year, Reno was diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma following a splenectomy; his prognosis was 1-2 months. We decided at that time that we needed to spend as much time with him and do the things he enjoys most. One of the most enjoyable days was spent at the lake with his mom and dad, brothers and 2 grandmas. He got to play in the water and just do whatever he wanted…..it was his day. It was wonderful to see him so happy!! It is now 5 months later and Reno is still enjoying life!!! He continues to enjoy his walks, play ball and still chases bunnies. He is truly an inspiration!! It’s hard to say how much longer Reno will be with us but for now, we will just treasure, love and spoil him each and every day…….our perfect, handsome, loving Reno!! We love you so much!!!!!!!
