"Callie"
-
I have a 14 week old puppy named Callie. I've never owned a Golden Retriever but after a month I can assure you I won't own a different breed in the future. I've known about their wonderful reputation but I didn't realize how great they are until I've spent time one on one with a Golden. I got a call about Callie from a friend who knew the breeder. Callie was an extremely shy puppy, and while I've only worked with labs in the past, my friend knew I'd probably be the best option for the puppy's well being. The breeder was so concerned about her demeanor she let me have her for 1/4 of what she normally charged for the puppies. (I probably could have gotten her for free) I picked up Callie 4 weeks ago. She was never properly socialized with humans and needed LOTS of attention.
I have spent the last month doing nothing but spending time with the puppy- 100+ hours at least. The first day I brought her home she was overwhelmingly despondent. She wouldn't even walk around or even eat. I was very worried but chalked this up to adjustment, and  continued holding and petting her and telling her what a good girl she was. I came home the third day to see she was sitting up. She watched my every move. While she would run away, she didn't run far. She cowered down when I approached her for a while. After an adjustment period I decided to take her out into the world. She was so jumpy and suspicious of everything. She rarely looked content and would panic at the slightest noise. Needless to say 2 weeks later and I have the greatest puppy I've ever been privileged to own.
She's the sweetest and most loving puppy you can imagine. To see her go from hiding from everything and everyone to being a confident and intelligent puppy has been an unbelievable experience. She came out of her shell so much faster than I ever expected. She sits, stays, fetches, and even heels. She is a breeze on the leash. It took a routine of a week and she was housebroken. The breeder was shocked but very happy at the outcome. You can see by her pictures what a beautiful and intelligent girl Callie is. I know I'm biased but I think she's the best dog my family has ever owned. Please consider the pictures as it would make me burst with pride seeing my shy little girl (who once was so scared of my refrigerator she would hide behind my couch) on the cover of a Golden Retriever publication. She has already been chosen for the Weather Channel's Pet of the Day for September 16th after my wife submitted a picture. I believe Callie is a special dog and we were both meant to find each other. I've struggled with my weight at times and in my fervor to help this puppy I've lost 15 pounds from all the time spent walking her. So, you see, she has helped me as well.

This puppy was one no one wanted. All she needed was someone to spend the time with her. To see her being recognized for not only her beauty in pictures but her outstanding obedience with compliments from strangers is a great thing. It's truly gratifying. Your consideration is greatly appreciated. I really enjoy the site and keep up the good work.
