"Very Special Memorial Day Puppies"
My tiny Yellow Star was born on Memorial Day 2012, fifth amongst nine. She was born in the back of the car on the way to the Vet Emergency, along with a sister sibling. She was next to the smallest at only 11 oz. She then lost an ounce for two days straight, down to 10 oz., but has now gained it back plus two more. So hopefully things will keep looking up. She and Little Baby Blue have been real slow to gain any weight. We are feeding them both extra goats milk for newborns from a baby bottle and of course letting them nurse first on their Mama. We had to endure an emergency C-Section in order to save a puppy with a low heart rate found with the Doppler. There was an other puppy behind her that wasn't going to be able to come out, as the puppy with the low heart rate wasn't able to make it out on her own. She is doing quite well now, as is all the others, to include our tiny little Miracle Bonus boy puppy, born at 9.5 oz. He is strong as can be, weighing in at 24 oz on day Ten.
So precious..., we had family visitors on day six and both Yellow Star and Baby Blue settled into their cradled hands and slept softly while being cuddled for an hour.
My Deepest Appreciation and Thanks goes out to everyone involved who helped save the lives of all the puppies and of course our love and gratitude to our Shining Star, the Mama, Cheyenne. Christine McDaniel, who jumped right in and hand delivered most of the puppies, (all but the three) Jocelyn Lewis, long time breeder professional who advised and assisted Christine and myself, our very special and knowledgeable Reproduction Veterinarian, Dr. Janice L. Cain of Bishop Ranch Veterinary in San Ramon, Ca., Kristin Unger, her very close and trusted assistant, the anesthesiologist, Sam, Dr. John C. Baine, who performed the survival techniques to bring the puppy with the low heart rate to life, and to all the other technicians and assistants at Bishop Ranch. With out the assistance and expertise of Karen Copley of Whelp Wise and the use of their contraction monitoring system and the Doppler, we may have lost several of these precious puppies.
May 28th, Memorial Day 2012, a day to never forget how very lucky we really are.
